Volleyball: Rockland Crowned Mid Hudson Conference Champions0

Rockland Volleyball - 2017 Conference Champions

Rockland defeated SUNY Orange 3-1 to win the Mid Hudson Conference Crown last night at Eugene Levy Fieldhouse. It was Rockland’s first Mid Hudson crown since 2004.  Rockland swept Westchester in the semifinal round while Orange upset Ulster in a five-set thriller.

Rockland won the first two set and was set to cruise through the third set before SUNY Orange came back with timely hits and blocks to upend the Lady Hawks’ momentum.  The Lady Hawks manage to regain their composure in the fourth set to win the conference crown.

Here are what Coach Erik Ellingsen had to say:

Shannon Thomas: Typically Shannon’s offense is the standout but even though she had 13 kills, it was her passing that kept us in the game wioth 24 digs along with 4 blocks.

Nicole Polanco: Our glue and most versitile player on the court had 10 kills and perfect placement in tight situations along with 20 digs.

Cha-Neice Gordon: Break out game for Cha-Neice with 9 monster kills!

Emily Schmidt: Showed a new level of intensity and came up with some timely kills and clutch serves to finish off OCC at the end of the last 2 sets.

Kayla Oge: The difference maker when it comes to matching up with other teams due to her ability to block or alter the hits of opposing teams top players.

Sara Hayward: Our main vein as every play goes through sara as our ultra reliable setter with 28 assists.

Rockland will host Suffolk tomorrow night, October 26 in a Region XV quarterfinal round. Winner will advance to the Region XV Tournament this weekend at SUNY Orange.
