BASEBALL (RECORD 12-4, REGION 0-0, CONFERENCE 0-0)

The Baseball team’s Florida trip got off to a wet start with two games rained out in the first two days of play. The team did play well in two other games though, falling to Kirkwood in 9 innings on Sunday by the score of 3-2 and topping Bethany College 3-1 on Monday. The game vs UCONN Avery Point was suspended in the 3rd inning on Sunday and will not be continued. Monday’s game vs Messiah College is rescheduled for Wednesday.

The Vikings got off to a solid start against Kirkwood putting up 2 runs in the second inning when Steve Guzman (JFK HS/Bronx, NY) scored on an error and Alex Borman (Huntington HS/Huntington, NY) scored on a passed ball. Kirkwood got one back in the bottom of the 3rd and they tacked on a run in the 6th to tie the game at 2. John Reda (Mahopac HS/Mahopac, NY) had a solid outing pitching 7 innings giving one earned run on five hits and while striking out five. Kirkwood was able to plate a run in the 9th for what was scheduled as a 7-inning game to take the win.

WCC fared better on Monday as Luke McDonagh (Carmel HS/Carmel, NY) gave up a run in the first but nothing more as he fell short of the complete game when he got into trouble in the 7th. Alonso Tenya (Lima, Peru/Scarsdale, NY) came in to get the final out to seal the game for the Vikings. The team plated 2 runs in the 5th and an insurance run in the 6th on RBIs by Scottie Giordano (Croton Harmon HS/Croton, NY) and Jon Carlo Angiolillo (Pleasantville HS/Pleasantville, NY)

Tuesday, March 14 The Vikings collected 20 hits and mercy ruled Bethany College innings. In the second game, Brody Alberts got the win as the Vikings scored a walk off 4-3 win over Kirkwood in the 9th.

Wednesday March 15 Nick Cipriano (Dobbs Ferry HS/Dobbs Ferry, NY) and Ryan Mullaly (Somers HS/Somers, NY) combined to limit Messiah to just one run on four hits as the Vikings did all their damage in the 4th inning with four runs in the frame. They went on to win 4-1.

Thursday March 16 The Vikings put together 10 hits and hung on to beat Kirkwood 8-7 in Florida. The Vikings put together 10 hits and hung on to beat Kirkwood 8-7 in Florida. For the nightcap, Nicholas Antenucci (Stepinac HS/Yonkers, NY) got the win pitching 5.2 innings, giving up three earned runs with 8 strikeouts. Scott Giordano and Felix Camacho (St. Raymond’s HS/Bronx, NY) each had two RBI as the Vikings held an early 3-1 lead. Messiah scored one in the 5th to tie it, but Westchester fought right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning and held on for the 8-5 triumph. With the string of wins, the team moves to 9-4 on the season. They return to action versus Kirkwood at 1pm on Thursday… Thursday March 16 The Vikings extended their win streak to seven when they scored 2 in the bottom of the 7th for a walkoff Mercy rule win over UConn Avery Point, 13-6. Felix Comacho went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs FRIDAY MARCH 17 The Vikings wrapped up their Florida trip by beating The Future Stars 6-5 in Fort Pierce. The Future Stars rallied for two runs in the top of the 7th but fell short.
