SOCCER (RECORD 3-0-0, REGION 3-0-0, CONFERENCE 2-0-0)

September 13, 2017 – Bayside, NY

The WCC Men’s Soccer team opened the 2017 campaign with a victory yesterday, topping Queensborough CC 2-1. The win starts the Vikings off on the right foot in what the team hopes will be a season where they can compete for conference and regional titles.

Westchester fell behind early as QCC put the first ball in the back of the net in the 30th minute. Though the team kept offensive pressure on the Tigers for much of the game, they were held scoreless until Joel Arevalo knocked in the equalizer off of a penalty kick in the 50th minute. With less than five minutes left in the match, the Vikings took the lead when Arevalo struck again, scoring off of a feed by Luis Morales for the eventual game winner.

The Vikings men’s soccer team notched their second win in three days as they defeated Dutchess Community College by the score of 8-1 on the “Homecoming of the Viking” Day. In what was the team’s home opener, the department of Student Involvement collaborated with athletics to host a tailgate party prior to the soccer match and women’s volleyball game, held later on in the evening.

WCC got on the board immediately when Felipe Scario De Oliveira scored within the 2nd minute. Freshman Franco LandronDeGuevarra then extended the lead by scoring in the 17th minute for one of his three goals on the day. By halftime, the Vikings led 5-0.

In the second period the Senators got back in the match with two goals to make it 4-2 before the WCC defense clamped down to hold the lead. A late goal by Gayle in the last seconds of the game sealed the win for the Vikings.
