THURSDAY SEPT. 29 Valhalla, NY) – Sophomore Jamar Gayle scored three times, including twice during the game’s opening 10 minutes, and freshman Mate Mgeladze scored twice to lead the Westchester Community College Men’s Soccer team to a dominant 7-3 win over visiting SUNY Orange on Tuesday afternoon at Barrett Field. With the win, the Vikings snap a two-game losing streak and improves the team to 5-2.

The win also clinches the 2017 Mid Hudson Conference Championship for WCC as the Vikings swept through conference play.

As has been the case for much of the season at home, Westchester put the game away quickly, scoring three times during the game’s first 10 minutes, and four straight overall to open the game. Sophomore Joel Arevalo opened the scoring in the fifth minute, before Gale scored at 8:01 and 9:45 to put the Vikings up 3-0. Mgeladze netted his first goal of the game to extend the lead to 4-0 at 27:00. After a SUNY Orange penalty kick tally at 34:30 to make it 4-1, Mgeladze scored his second of the contest to send WCC into halftime with a 5-1 lead.

Gale extended the lead to 6-1 at 48:50 to complete the hat-trick.

After a SUNY Orange goal at 56:00 to make it a 6-2 lead, freshman Franco LandronDeGuevarra scored at 83:15 to extend the lead to 7-2. A second SUNY Orange penalty kick goal at 85:20 concluded the scoring at 7-3.

Westchester CC has now outscored opponents 20-6 at home this season.

VOLLEYBALL (Record 4-5 Region 4-5, Conference 2-4)

TUESDAY SEPT. 26 (Middletown, NY) – Alysha Owens registered 13 kills and six services, and Lindsay Leggio added 21 assists, but the Westchester Community College Women’s Volleyball team was swept by SUNY Orange, 3-0 on Tuesday night at SUNY Orange. With the loss, the Vikings fall to 4-4 for the 2017 season.

Orange, who swept the season series from Westchester, opened play with a 25-20 win, before earning the last two sets, 25-19 and 25-18.

Also for WCC, Crystal Alcantara added 11 kills without a single attacking error… THURSDAY SEPT 28 The Vikings dropped a Mid-Hudson Conference match at Ulster 25-11, 25-16, 25-19


October 2, 2017 – Milton, NY

WCC’s men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to the Hudson Valley Sports Dome to compete in the Mount Saint Mary College Knights Invitational on Saturday. The meet also served as the Mid-Hudson Conference Championship as all MHC schools were represented. The men’s team finished as runners-up in the conference to SUNY Orange. On the women’s side there were not enough full teams within the conference to contest the championship. The men also finished as the second overall community college team at the meet.

The women were led by newcomer Selinamarie Colon, who made her debut for the Lady Vikings. She finished 63rd overall out of 198 runners with a time of 28:53 for the 6K course. Jacqueline Sanders was the second Westchester runner to cross the line as she stopped the clock at 30:13. Mia Colon finished with a time of 31:22 while Celene Morales ran to a 37:27 in her first race of the season.

The men were once again led by Tom Martorello, who was the Mid-Hudson Conference runner up and 38th overall with a time of 29:50. Kevin Reyna ran to a 36:59 time for the 8K course, while Ray Sheerhan was closely behind at 37:49. Jason Pacchiana, Justin Meacock, and Alejandro Herrera rounded out the list of 6 finishers for the Vikings.
