RCC Sports Update – October 2014

Hawks

The RCC Hawks are working hard on the soccer field and the volleyball court as we begin the second month of the fall semester.

The Men’s Soccer team is trying to break the .500 mark for the first time since early September. The Hawks (4-4) closed out the month with an impressive 5-1 victory over visiting Kingsborough last Tuesday. They were scheduled to play on Saturday (Oct. 4) at nationally-ranked Suffolk, however the heavy rains forced Suffolk officials to postpone the contest. Suffolk and RCC will discuss a makeup date shortly.

Cristian Diaz leads the RCC offense with 6 goals and three assists. Diaz, a Ramapo graduate, scored three times in a conference win against Westchester, and once in a victory over Dutchess. If RCC can defeat Orange on Wednesday October 8th, they will clinch a share of the Mid Hudson Conference championship. Rockland has a chance to win the title outright depending on the other league results this week.

The Women’s Volleyball team is still searching for their first win this season. The team is coming off a pair of tough weekend losses to New York City opponents FIT and Bor. of Manhattan. RCC opens a stretch of home contests tonight when they host arch-rival Orange at 7pm. They are also scheduled to play at home on Thursday (10/9) and this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday.

Here is a closer look at the upcoming home schedule:

  • 7 Tue. Volleyball vs. ORANGE, 7:00pm
