Under the direction of Head Coach Patrick Carey 96′, the Iona College Gaels kicked off their 2015 baseball season with their Annual First Pitch Dinner on February 10th at the Hynes Athletic Center on the New Rochelle campus. Carey, now in his ninth season as the Iona Head Coach, was an All-Conference and All-Region XV player while playing for Coach Dan Keeley at RCC in 1995 and 1996. He later starred at Providence College before beginning his coaching career. While the head coach at RCC, Carey posted back-to-back Region XV Championships in 2003 and 2004.
Highlighting the dinner was the keynote speech by former New York Yankee Mariano Rivera. After Rivera’s inspirational words, the future Hall of Famer provided memorabilia and autographs for a post-dinner auction. According to Carey, the event was a tremendous success and a was a fantastic way to start the season.
