The RCC Baseball team took three-out-of-four games this past weekend from arch-rival Westchester. The Hawks (6-6) won the opening game of the series on Thursday at Manhattanville College when they scored seven times in the sixth inning after trailing 3-2 in the prior inning. The team kept the momentum going on Saturday when pitchers CJ Schoenleber and Alex Conti allowed just two runs over 13 total innings and led the team to a convincing 9-1 and 7-1 doubleheader sweep at Hawk Field. RCC was helped offensively when newcomer Danny Demetrops collected three hits and and two RBI. The Hawks however were denied the series sweepand were blanked, 10-0, on Sunday at Westchester. The team was forced to postpone today’s rescheduled game against CC of Morris due to last night’s heavy rain. RCC will be back on their home turf on Thursday and Friday when they host Sullivan. Both games are set to start at 4pm.
The new-look Men’s Tennis team was back on the courts this weekend after a three year hiatus. Under the direction of first-year coach Joe Gravagna, the Hawks (1-0) posted a 9-0 win over Kingsborough CC on Saturday at Suffern High School. Jeremy Rosen took the First Singles Flight in straight sets (6-1, 6-3). Rosen also teamed up with Kyle Castorico to take the First Doubles Flight, 8-5. RCC now hosts Fashion Institute of Technology on Saturday at 1pm at nearby Manny Weldler Park.
The Golf team opened their season at Spook Rock Golf Course yesterday by finishing second behind defending Region champion Nassau CC. The match was shaved to 9 holes in anticipation of the rain. RCC was led by sophomores Brian McGarvey (39) and Benedict Tagle (45). The Hawks did however climb to the top of Mid Hudson Conference standings and are five strokes ahead of Ulster. The team travels to Dunwoodie Golf Club in Westchester County on Thursday for a 1pm tee time.
