Rockland Splits Basketball Doubleheader Against Kingsborough

Rockland splits their doubleheader match against Kingsborough this afternoon at Eugene Levy Fieldhouse.

In the women’s game, the Lady Hawks were off to a hot start as they raced to a 25-11 lead en route to a 77-69 victory.

In the second half, the Lady Waves used a 15-4 run to cut Rockland’s lead to six with 14 minutes left but the Lady Hawks kept their poised and use great defense to raise the lead back up to 10 on their way to notch their sixth straight win.

Nanuet alum Nikki Saponaro led Rockland with 17 points. Fellow Nanuet graduate Christine Brezovsky added 13 while Monroe Woodbury graduate Stephanie Burke and G.F. Baker alum Katie Sovak netted 11 points each. White Plains graduate Shawan Crooks had 13 rebounds while Spring Valley alum Samantha Gabriel had 11 boards.

In the men’s match, host Rockland CC dropped its sixth straight game as Kingsborough CC took a 50-36 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the 93-76 triumph. Tommie Starkes led Rockland with 13 points while teammate and North Rockland graduate Whitney Valcin added 10. Terrance Hardwick led Kingsborough with 18 points. Rockland drops to 2-12 on the season.
