Ulster wins Conference Soccer title0

SUNY Ulster won their first conference title since 2012 after beating Westchester 2-1 in overtime last night.

Westchester took the lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Tobe Obealor. Ulster then responded four minutes into the second half with a goal from Erick Alverez.   The Vikings answered with a goal from Andrew Huyhua in the 75th minute to take the lead.

Ulster’s Jesus Martinez scored from the midfield to tie the game at 2 a piece a minute after, forcing the championship game into extra time. Martinez scored from 30 yards out with four minutes remaining in the first extra time to give Ulster the conference crown.

This is Ulster’s first title under coach Jamal Lis-Simmons who took over the program in 2016.

The senators are heading to the Northeast Sub-District semi-final round next Saturday as they travel to face Mercer CC. Kickoff is at 12 pm.
